450,000 Cups of Coffee Later, Vibrant CU Plans to Sell its Coffeehouses

MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) – Vibrant Credit Union said it plans to sell its coffeehouses and will instead “double down” on its financial services offerings.

The $1.1-billion credit union opened Coffeehouse + Kitchens in Moline, Bettendorf and Des Moines in “a true experiment in blending community, innovation, and financial services,” it said in a statement.

The Moline store opened in 2022, and the Bettendorf store opened in 2023.

Now, Vibrant CU said it plans to focus on “what it does best,” noting it has become a leader in equipment loans and that 2025 will be a record-breaking year for certificates, checking and savings services.

‘People Want More’

“Thank you for drinking 453,274 cups of coffee, attending 98 events, grabbing 28,418 pieces of merch, and sharing all your love for our space and vibe,” President and CEO Matt McCombs said in a statement.  “You proved what we always believed: people want more from their financial institutions—more connection, more creativity, more courage.”

Free lattes will be offered on Aug. 28 at all its locations, according to its Facebook post.
