CAPITOLA, Calif.–Credit unions across the country have announced donations as well as staff volunteerism around Thanksgiving.
In California, Bay Federal Credit Union has launched a giving campaign that includes a $10,000 donation match and a Black Friday weekend promotion benefiting food banks across Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties.
Members can make a donation to any of Bay Federal’s partner food banks, and the credit union will match contributions dollar for dollar until the $10,000 match is reached.

Special Visa Offer
To build even more support, Bay Federal said it is also introducing a special offer for Visa credit cardholders. For every eligible local transaction made between Nov. 28 and Dec. 2, 2025, Bay Federal will donate $1 to the same local food banks. Everyday purchases at local businesses during this period will directly increase the total donation amount, the credit union said.
“We care deeply about our local community here on the Central Coast,” President and CEO Carrie Birkhofer said in a statement. “By matching donations to local food banks and encouraging members to support local businesses while doing their holiday shopping, we can work together to make a meaningful difference for households throughout our region.”
U.S. Eagle is Matching Contributions
Meanwhile, in New Mexico, U.S. Eagle Credit Union and the ARNIA Foundation have announced they will match contributions to nonprofits that fight food insecurity in the state, including The Food Depot.
The credit union said it will double the donation amount up to $10,000, and donors need not be a member of the credit union to participate.
The Food Depot is a Santa Fe-based nonprofit organization that aims to make healthy food accessible to every person in the community.
More Than 300 Meals Prepared
In Middletown, R.I., volunteers from People’s Credit Union partnered with the Newport Salvation Army to prepare more than 300 Thanksgiving meal kits for distribution to local families.
“At People’s, we are giving thanks this year for our friends at the Newport Salvation Army and all they do to support our neighbors in need,” Heather Sweeney, manager of the credit unoin’s Newport branch, said in a statement. “We are grateful to be a part of this Thanksgiving tradition and this special community, where we help each other not just at the holiday, but year-round.”
