WASHINGTON–The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) said Congressman Mike Haridopolos, who Florida’s 8th Congressional District, will provide a featured “View from the Capitol” at DCUC’s Defense Matters event on March 3 at the Marriott Marquis Washington.
DCUC said its Defense Matters 2026 “empowers credit union leaders to stay informed, engaged, and ready to take action on behalf of their members.”
The annual event, held in conjunction with America’s Credit Unions GAC, brings together credit industry leaders, policymakers, and advocates to discuss the legislative and regulatory issues shaping credit unions serving military, veteran, and defense communities worldwide.

‘Honored to Welcome’
“We are honored to welcome Congressman Haridopolos to Defense Matters 2026,” President and CEO Anthony Hernandez said in a statement. “His willingness to share his time and insights provides tremendous value to our member credit unions as they navigate a rapidly evolving policy and regulatory environment. Direct engagement with lawmakers helps ensure credit unions remain well-positioned to serve communities across the nation and overseas.”
Rep. Haridopolos began his career teaching United States History and Political Science at Brevard Community College—now Eastern Florida State College, and taught classes as an instructor at the Bob Graham Center at the University of Florida.
Work in Florida Legislature
Representing communities in Brevard County in the Florida House of Representatives and the State Senate from 2000-2012, DCUC said he championed transparency, reduced taxes, and advanced conservative reforms. In 2008, he sponsored and championed Florida’s constitutional amendment reducing property taxes and allowing homeowners to bring their tax savings with them when they move to a new home.
Serving as President of the Senate from 2010-2012, Haridopolos made transforming the Florida Senate into a more conservative policy body a key objective of his time in office, DCUC said.
After leaving office in 2012, Haridopolos started a successful business and political consulting company. He was elected to represent Florida’s 8th Congressional District in 2024, following the retirement of Congressman Bill Posey.
‘Meaningful Perspective’
Added Jason Stverak, DCUC chief advocacy officer, in a statement, “This segment will offer our attendees a meaningful perspective on the legislative landscape and the issues impacting financial institutions serving servicemembers, veterans, and their families. We are grateful to Congressman Haridopolos for engaging with our members and contributing to informed, constructive dialogue on Capitol Hill priorities.”
