4 Credit Unions, 3 States, 2 Remaining CUs, 1 Thing in Common

NEWFANE, N.Y. — Credit unions in two different states have announced the completion of mergers, one of which reaches across state lines.

In New York, Ontario Shores Federal Credit Union said it has completed its merger with Youngstown, N.Y.-based Lewiston Porter Federal Credit Union.

Full integration of systems and services is expected to be complete by September.

Lewiston Porter FCU had $14.4-million in assets and 841 members, according to its most recent 5300. It reported $16,286 in Q1 net income and capital of 11.51%. The $165.9 million Ontario Shores FCU had approximately 10,505 members prior to the merger.

“We’re excited to welcome the members of Lewiston Porter FCU,” OSFCU CEO Jeffrey Bell said in a statement. “This partnership is rooted in our shared values and commitment to providing exceptional service. We look forward to growing together and continuing to put our members first.”

The credit unions said the merger strengthens Ontario Shores FCU’s ability to serve a broader membership base while “maintaining the personal, community-oriented service that defines both institutions.”

Merger Completed in Connecticut

Separately, in Connecticut, a merger has been completed between the $102.7-million, Manchester, Conn.-based Northeast Family FCU, and the $2.1-billion Self-Help FCU, which is based in Raleigh, N.C. and which has a 38-branch presence and operates in California, Illinois, Washington and Wisconsin.

NFFCU has $28 employees, 5,867 members and two branches.

“This merger gives us a presence in the Northeast — a new area for us,” said Rudolfo Medina, president of Self-Help Federal Credit Union, in a statement. We are excited about both the expansion into a new state and about partnering with this mission-aligned institution to continue to provide affordable financial services to the communities they serve.”

Joanne Todd, Northeast Family Federal Credit Union president and CEO, said the merger will offer members “a wider range of programs and services.”
