‘People (Crashing Into) People’: Here are Latest CUs to be Hit by Cars

LAWRENCE, Mass.—America’s financial co-ops remain prime targets for America’s drivers.

Thanks to the CU Daily’s dedicated news division providing ongoing coverage of vehicle crashes at credit unions, the latest incidents include:

  • In Lawrence, Mass, a vehicle driven by a BrightBridge Credit Union member accidentally drove into the lobby of the credit union’s Lawrence, Mass. branch, causing damage to the facility.  “Thankfully, nobody was injured in the accident, including the driver who was given medical attention at the scene and then, as a precaution, was taken by ambulance for further evaluation,” the credit union said. The branch was closed until repairs could be made. “We are so thankful no one was injured in this incident,” President and CEO John J. Howard said in a statement. “The only important thing at times like these is everyone’s safety. Everything else can be replaced.”
  • In Evansville, Ind., a car crashed into the branch of Diamond Valley Credit Union on Vogel Road. There was  some outside damage to the building.
  • In Kingsford, Mich., no one was injured when a pickup truck struck the side of the Iron-Mountain Kingsford Community FCU’s main location. “The older driver wasn’t aware the vehicle was in drive and jumped the curb, hitting just under windows near the building’s side entrance,” local media reported. “But he was able to walk away after being checked out on site in an ambulance, according to Kingsford Public Safety officers at the crash. The credit union was able to remain open despite the impact dislodging several bricks and knocking window frames out of alignment.”
  • In Cottage Grove, Wis., a Summit Credit Union branch was the scene of an accident when a driver crashed into multiple parked cars following a medical emergency.
  • In Santa Barbara, Calif., an elderly woman drove her car into a facility of Santa Barbara Teachers FCU on La Colina Road. The woman told police officers that she had mistakenly pressed the gas pedal, drove over the curb, and hit the building. Local media reported the woman had minor complaints of pain and was taken to Cottage Hospital. No one else was hurt in the crash. There was some minor plaster damage to the building.
  • In Scranton, Penn., emergency crews responded after a truck smashed into the front of Penn East Federal Credit Union’s building on Davis Street. The facility was temporarily closed.
