Goal to Have CUs Trending Today as Part of ‘#I Love My Credit Union’ Initiative

NAPERVILLE, Ill.–The annual #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day campaign will be celebrated across the country today in an initiative that involves a collective effort on social media to raise the profile of credit unions. By having participants all use the hashtag, the goal is to get credit unions trending for a day.

The objective of the campaign, which was initially created by Tom Kane, the retired president of the Illinois league, and which is still overseen by the ICUL, is for “the credit union movement to come together for a common cause.” According to the league, the 2024 campaign featured credit union participation from 15 countries and all 50 U.S. states, with a total of 1,080 organizations joining the movement.

Four-Million People Reached

“Through collective efforts, the campaign reached over four-million people and engaged 500,000 individuals in celebrating the credit union difference,” the ICUL said.

A cornerstone of the initiative beyond just raising the profile of credit unions is charitable giving, and in 2024 some $20,000 was raised for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

The credit union leagues representing states that have the greatest participation are awarded $5,000 each, courtesy of ICUL subsidiary Envisant. Four leagues–Maine, Indiana, Nebraska, and California-Nevada—were recognized with funds in 2024, which are then donated to a charity of the league’s choice.

Celebration in Colorado

Among the CUs participating in 2025 is Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Ent CU, which said it will be encouraging Coloradans to take simple steps to improve their financial well-being and by sharing how its members have impacted communities across the Front Range.

“I Love My Credit Union Day is about celebrating the power of people helping people,” Annie Snead, Ent’s executive director of philanthropy and community relations, said in a statement. “Credit unions across the country, including Ent, are built on the idea that financial institutions can be a force for good. We’re proud to be part of a movement that puts people and communities first.”

Ent has shared a number of ways its members can invest in their financial futures as part of the initiative.
