Black Dragon Capital Launches FinTech Ltd. Partner Advisory Board With 10 CU Members

BOCA RATON, Fla.— Black Dragon Capital is reporting it has launched a new FinTech Limited Partner Advisory Board it said is aimed at deepening collaboration with leading credit unions and CUSOs “to drive innovation and investment in the financial technology sector.”

The firm said the board will bring together credit union leaders and Black Dragon’s operating experts to address key challenges facing the industry and create sustainable fintech solutions.

“We are not satisfied with simply exposure to new ideas,” Louis Hernandez Jr., chairman, CEO and managing partner of Black Dragon Capital, said in a statement. “The real value is to create long-term sustainable companies that solve the most significant issues in the industry and provide returns to credit unions and their members.”

Board Members

The advisory board’s initial members include:

  • SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union
  • First Tech Federal Credit Union
  • Canvas Credit Union
  • California Credit Union
  • AltaOne Federal Credit Union
  • SECU
  • Origence
  • Redwood Credit Union
  • Velera
  • WSECU

Hernandez said the board is composed of trusted leaders from across the credit union movement who bring decades of experience. The collaboration will focus on identifying, funding and scaling fintech companies that align with credit union missions and values, the company said.

Benson Porter will serve as chair of the board, with co-chairs Bill Cheney, CEO of SchoolsFirst FCU, and Chuck Fagan, CEO of Velera.

‘Growing Interest’

“The formation of the board reflects growing interest among credit unions to take a more active role in shaping the future of financial services through strategic investments and partnerships, particularly in response to growing pressures from big banks and direct-to-consumer fintech platforms,” according to Black Dragon.
