ESTERO, Fla.–Hertz has announced plans to sell its used cars on Amazon’s automotive marketplace.
As the CU Daily recently reported here, Amazon Autos has expanded its option and now allows those in the market to shop for used and certified pre-owned (CPO) cars on its website.
“Our goal is to reimagine the car-buying experience and meet customers where they are—whether online or in person—with convenience, confidence and scale,” Jeff Adams, executive vice president of Hertz Car Sales, said in a statement.

Most Vehicles Still Sell Through Auctions
According to the company, Hertz sells about a third of its former rental cars directly to consumers through its auto lots and website, but most of its vehicle sales still go through auto auctions or to dealers.
In the deal with Amazon Autos, the Wall Street Journal reported that buyers can browse cars, complete their purchase on the website and pick up the car at locations in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle. It plans to expand to 45 locations around the U.S.
“Hertz is trying many routes to offload vehicles to retail buyers,” the Journal said. “Earlier this month, it expanded its longstanding three-day ‘try before you buy’ program to 100 cities. It is beefing up its website to enable more digital transactions and selling through other digital storefronts such as Carvana and Autotrader.com.”
Additional $1,000
Retail sales are worth an additional $1,000 to $1,500 per vehicle for Hertz, Barclays analysts were quoted by the Journal as saying.
Amazon is also recruiting car dealers to list their used vehicles, including those designated as certified preowned, on Amazon Autos.
