Fired NCUA Board Member Todd Harper Pledges to Continue Fight to be Restored to Job

ALEXANDRIA, Va.–Former NCUA board member Todd Harper has issued a statement saying he, along with Tanya Otsuka, who was also fired by President Trump, remain committed to the fight to be restored to the board.

An appeals court recently issued an emergency stay in favor of the government that for now keeps both former board members off the panel. Harper and Otsuka had won a temporary court victory that allowed them to participate in the July NCUA board meeting, before being removed just days later.

“IN AND OUT AND IN AND OUT,” said Harper in a post on LinkedIn. “Our return to the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Board was short, but the commitment of Tanya Otsuka and me to continuing this legal fight is strong. Despite the decision to reinstate the stay for now, the tradition of maintaining the independence of financial regulators pre-dates the U.S. Constitution, goes back to the early days of our republic, and is vital for maintaining the public’s trust that their financial institution of choice operates safely and soundly, their consumer rights remain fully protected, and their insured share deposits are safeguarded.

“Thus, I remain hopeful that the appeals panel will ultimately issue a favorable ruling for us on the merits,” Harper added.
