MADISON, Wis. – The National Credit Union Foundation has announced the honorees of the highest honors in U.S. credit unions, the 2026 Herb Wegner Memorial Awards.

Honored with Outstanding Individual Achievement awards will be:
- Kathy Chartier, president & CEO of Members Credit Union in Connecticut
- Gigi Hyland, the former executive director of the foundation who is now a credit union advocate and philanthropist, based in Virgina
- Steven Stapp, president & CEO of Unitus Community Credit Union in Oregon), will be honored with the Outstanding Individual Achievement Award.
The accolades will be presented at the Foundation gala, which is its primary fundraiser, on March 2nd, 2026, at the Marriott Marquis in Washington. The event is held in conjunction with the America’s Credit Union’s Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC).

‘Huge Impact’
“We are excited to recognize these three outstanding individuals who have made it their personal mission to improve financial well-being for all,” Lauren Culp, executive director of the foundation, said in a statement. “Each has made a huge impact on the credit union system and the world, and we look forward to celebrating their stories of inspiration together.”
According to the foundation, the awards recognize former CUNA President Herb Wegner’s “spirit of innovative, creative, risk-taking leadership.” The foundation added that a detailed profile of each award-winner will be published soon.
