WASHINGTON–A meeting hosted by the Carolinas Credit Union League (CCUL) last week for CU leaders in North and South Carolina covered many of the usual topics of concern, such as fraud and advocacy issues, but also included one unique story, according to America’s Credit Unions (ACU) President/CEO Scott Simpson.
The league had organized the series of CEO roundtables and credit union meetings across the Carolinas in order for Simpson to meet with CUs in the two states, with events hosted by S.C. State Federal Credit Union and State Employees’ Credit Union.
Simpson said one unique story shared during his meetings in Columbia, S.C. had to do with work being done by the $125-million Caro Federal Credit Union to provide assistance to a smaller CU.

A ‘Fantastic’ Example
“By almost every definition we use in the industry they’re a small credit union, but they are helping a smaller church credit union to operate in almost every way,” said Simpson, adding that the typical story of bigger-CU-helping-smaller CU involves a much larger credit union than Caro providing the assistance.
“This is a fantastic example and one that we’re going to talk more about and try to amplify,” said Simpson. “We see these credit unions helping credit unions stories all over the place.”
The CU Daily has additional coverage of the meetings in the Carolinas here.
Meeting Held With Georgia’s CUs
Separately, Simpson also met in Atlanta with credit union leaders in an event organized by The League of Credit Unions, whose president, Samantha Beeler, was in attendance.
“Thank you to the Georgia credit union leaders, and The League, who took time to share with me their perspectives on the state of our movement and their needs,” Simpson said in a statement. “Being able to meet directly with CEOs provides tremendous insights that help shape our unified advocacy and guide our strategies. Conversations like these reinforce the strength of collaboration and cooperation throughout the system.”
Simpson emphasized continued collaboration with The League and America’s Credit Unions to collect and amplify stories of credit union service to members. The credit unions shared input on the impact and costs of fraud, the importance of regulatory relief, and other advocacy priorities at the federal and state level.
