RENTON, Wash.–A ribbon cutting has been scheduled June 21st here for the Astra apartments, an affordable housing development backed by five credit unions.
The five CUs backing the project in partnership with the Evergreen Impact Housing Fund and the developer DevCO, are BECU, Salal Credit Union, Sound Credit Union, Verity Credit Union and WSECU.

The credit unions said the housing development will bring 275 affordable apartment units to working families in Renton. It is the second EIHF project supported by credit unions, the first being the Copper Way apartments in Spanaway that opened in September 2024.
“The opening of the Astra apartments will not only celebrate another step towards addressing and providing solutions for Washington state’s housing crisis, but also the dedication and investment of credit unions towards serving and uplifting their communities,” the credit unions said in a statement.
Tour Planned
The event will begin with a formal tour of both communities, followed by light bites and refreshments. The official ribbon cutting will take place at 2:00 PM, after which the event will open to the public, featuring property tours, food trucks, music, and a local vendor fair.
Representatives of all five credit unions, the EIHF and others will be on hand.
