After 40-Year Career, Peggy Stubblefield Retires from Ascend FCU

TULLAHOMA, Tenn.—After a 40-year career, Peggy Stubblefield, chief human resources officer with Ascend FCU, has announced her retirement.

Stubblefield began her Ascend career in 1982 as a certificate clerk and steadily advanced through roles of increasing responsibility in the Human Resource Department before being promoted to chief human Rresources officer in 2014.

“During her time with the credit union, her lasting dedication to promoting a positive work culture, implementing effective talent management practices, and driving diversity and inclusion initiatives has proven a true asset to the Ascend team,” the credit union said.

“We would like to thank Peggy for her exceptional contributions at Ascend,” President and CEO Matt Jernigan said in a statement. “Her long-standing tenure with the credit union has shaped and influenced our team, especially in our human resources department. We would like to wish her a happy retirement and hope she enjoys her next chapter in life.” 

“It has been a privilege to serve our Middle Tennessee communities,” said Stubblefield in a statement. “From my early days as a certificate clerk to leading the HR department, I’ve been surrounded by so many talented coworkers, and I’m proud of our accomplishments. I look forward to spending more time with family in retirement, while also watching what the future holds for my friends at Ascend.”

Recently, Stubblefield’s contributions to her department played a pivotal role in Ascend receiving prominent recognition for training and employee development among the nation’s elite organizations, Ascend said.

“Under her leadership, the credit union earned the distinction of being named a recipient of the Training Magazine’s MVP award for the 11th straight year, ranking an impressive 9th nationally. Additionally, Ascend has been recognized by American Banker as one of the top 70 best credit unions to work for in the United States for nine consecutive years, further illustrating the strong, positive workplace culture Stubblefield helped to cultivate throughout her tenure,” according to the credit union. “Over the course of her service, she continuously demonstrated exemplary leadership in developing and implementing innovative HR strategies, which significantly contributed to Ascend’s continued growth and success.
