Altra FCU Hosting ‘Dollars & Cents Camp’ for Kids During Summer

ONALASKA, Wis. –With children out of school for the summer, Altra FCU is hosting a “Dollars and Cents Camp” that seeks to introduce kids to fundamental financial concepts, including money history and spending strategies.

The program covers essential topics that organizers believe children should learn early in life.

“We’re talking about some money basics. Who’s on money, counting money, understanding the importance of putting together a spending plan, saving money, and thinking about the future,” Financial Wellness Coordinator Tony Byer told WKBT. “We feel it’s never too early to start thinking about money and these essential life skills.”

The camps represent part of a broader effort to provide children with practical life skills that will serve them as they grow older, the report added.

The $3-billion Altra FCU has more than 157,000 members.
