America’s Drivers Continue to Misunderstand ‘Drive-Thru’; 2 Buildings Hit

TOLEDO, Ohio–Credit union buildings continue to be targets of America’s drivers.

Over the weekend CU branches in two different states were hit by errant drivers, causing damage in both cases. The accidents are only the latest in which credit union buildings have been hit by cars.

In Toledo, Ohio, the main branch of the Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union will now be closed in the coming months after someone crashed into it early Sunday morning, and then took off.

According to ABC News 13, the incident caused members to be unable to access their account information temporarily, but the system has since come back online, a representative with the credit union told the news outlet.

The accident occurred around 5 a.m. on April 6. Police at the scene told 13 Action News a driver hit the building and a gas line, before leaving.

Crews with the restoration company working on clean-up efforts said the car hit a gas line and knocked out the main power lines to the building, affecting utilities, ABC 13 reported.

Crash in Michigan

Separately, in East Lansing, Mich., a car crashed into a bike rack and then into a branch of MSU FCU. The credit union boarded up the windows and was able to open for business.

Police say the suspect ran away from the crash but has been identified and is in custody. They believe that alcohol was involved, police added.
