ALEXANDRIA, Va.–Despite a victory in court earlier this week by two fired members of the NCUA board, when the agency board holds its meeting today it is expected to be held with just one member, Chairman Kyle Hauptman.
While some had speculated the two fired board members, Todd Harper and Tonya Otsuka might be present or attempt to be in attendance today, Harper confirmed to the CU Daily he will not be in Washington. There was other speculation, however, that Harper and/or Otsuka might attempt to attend virtually, a precedent for which was set during COVID.

As the CU Daily reported here, Harper and Otsuka have won their court case against the Trump Administration over their firings. The judge ruled that both board members be returned to their positions.
However, as the CU Daily also reported here, the Trump Administration moved quickly to file an appeal and motion that seeks to stay a judge’s order the two Democratic members of the NCUA board be reinstated.
Brandy Bruyere, regulatory compliance attorney, Consumer Financial Services & Credit Unions + Partner at Honigman, LLP, pointed out the District Court issued a minute order noting that the government did not mention today’s NCUA board meeting in its stay request, so Harper/Otsuka were given until noon today to respond to the motion for stay.
Today’s Agenda
The agenda for today’s one-member board meeting includes:
- A briefing on artificial intelligence
- A briefing from the NCUA Ombudsman
- A briefing on the Central Liquidity Facility.
As always, the CU Daily will have full coverage.
