Another CU ATM Hit by Jackpotting Attack

KEARNEY, Neb.–Credit union ATMs across the country continue to be hit by jackpotting attacks.

Police in Kearney, Neb. said they are investigating a jackpotting attack—in which malware is used to get the machines to spit out cash—that occurred over the weekend at Trius Federal Credit Union.

“Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered that the ATM machines had been compromised and an undisclosed amount of cash was dispensed unlawfully,” local media reported.

Police said initial findings suggest the suspects used a form of malware or a hardware device to override the machine’s security systems.

Trius Federal confirmed no card or customer information was compromised.

As the CU Daily reported here, ATM jackpotting was recently flagged during TruStage’s Discovery Conference as one of the crimes where risk has been increasing.
