As One CU Names a New CEO, Another CEO Announces Retirement Plans

HARTFORD, Conn.—One credit union has announced a new CEO, while another CEO has announced retirement plans.

In Connecticut, the $153-million Hartford Federal Credit Union has selected Beth (Turina) Mazza as its new president and CEO, following the retirement of Ed Danek, who led the Credit Union for 36 years.

Mazza brings more than 20 years of experience in the credit union industry and a “strong commitment to supporting both members and the communities HFCU serves. Since joining Hartford Federal Credit Union in 2020, she has been instrumental in strengthening operations, enhancing member services, and fostering a positive workplace culture,” HFCU said.

“It’s a privilege to take on this role,” Mazza said in a statement. “With a strong foundation already in place, I’m excited to lead our next chapter—focused on growth, innovation, and delivering even greater value to our members and communities.”

Separately, in Waynesville, N.C., after 28 years of service at Mountain Credit Union, CEO Amy Woody has announced plans to retire in April.

Woody began with the $366-million Mountain CU in 1985 as a member service representative, and during her career worked as a teller, in lending, in branch management, and as executive vice president, where she was responsible for branch operations, lending, collections, compliance, ATMs and human resource,

Woody became the CEO in 2020 after the retirement of longtime CEO Patty Idol. 

“During her tenure as CEO, she developed a close-knit communicative executive team and an Asset Liability Committee, which meets weekly,” The Mountaineer reported. “During this time Mountain Credit Union have made great strides in adding digital services, IT security, lending products and state of the art financial equipment, all while increasing and maintaining strong net worth and liquidity. Additional administrative positions have been added as well, improving and adding member services.

Mountain Credit Union has approximately 31,000 members.
