WASHINGTON — Pointing to what it described as “operational constraints,” the CFPB said it would discontinue, as of Jan. 20, an email service alerting users to changes in Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) requirements.

Bureau spokesperson Peg Alizarisray did not offer details related to the “operational constraints,” but as The CU Daily has been reporting, the Trump administration has been actively working to eliminate much of the CFPB and its workforce, even as a federal court recently ordered that it be funded into 2026.
“We appreciate your understanding of these operational changes and encourage financial institutions to continue providing feedback on their experience using the HMDA platform,” the bureau said in a statement.
‘An Important Change’
The CFPB said it considers the new policy “an important change” to how HMDA platform updates and announcements will be communicated.
After Jan. 20, the CFPB said subscribers to the HMDA mailing list will no longer receive email notifications.
In offering the update, the bureau acknowledged that lenders consider information about platform updates and announcements important, and it recommended users visit the agency’s website and its “HMDA Updates and Notes” webpage to ensure continued access to timely information.
New updates will be tagged with an “Announcement” filter, according to the CFPB.
