WASHINGTON–It isn’t just credit unions concerned their tax exemption will become one of the “pay-fors” used in congressional legislation to offset the extension of the Trump tax cuts—plenty of other tax exempt organizations are concerned, as well.

To that end, America’s Credit Unions said it does regularly meet with other tax-exempt organizations, such as certain blood banks, hospitals, colleges and universities, and cooperatives.
ACU President and CEO Jim Nussle said the trade group is a member of the National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA) where it has an affinity with other co-ops and works with them where there is common ground.
Carrie Hunt, ACU’s chief advocacy officer, said it also works with various coalitions, including the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
‘A Little bit Different’
“Typically, we do have alignment with cooperatives,” said Hunt. “I do think that this situation is a little bit different in that we have experience in previous tax fight…At some point coalitions only get you so far because if everyone’s individual tax exemption is potentially at risk, each organization has to do their own information sharing and alignment.”
