Crew of 7 Suspects Arrested for Alleged Jackpotting Scheme Targeting CU

BATON ROUGE, La.–A crew of seven suspects allegedly attempted to jackpot an ATM at “Essential Credit Union on Jefferson Highway before being stopped by law enforcement.

The individuals are believed to be members of a transnational crime organization that moved into Baton Rouge from Texas, according to arrest documents obtained by WAFB.

As other credit unions have learned, ATM jackpotting involves criminals manipulating ATMs to dispense large amounts of cash through a combination of software and physical tampering.

Investigators said they found ATM keys and plans detailing how the thefts would unfold when they arrested the suspects, according to WAFB.
