CU-Backed Candidate Wins in Congressional Special Election

TUCSON, Ariz.–A congressional candidate who had the backing of credit unions and who has been a credit union supporter herself has won one special election and now heads to another.

Adelita Grijalva (D) won Arizona’s 7th Congressional District Democratic primary. With 62% of the vote in a field of five Democratic candidates, Grijalva now advances to the Sept. 23 special election where she will seek to fill the seat left open by the death of her father, Rep. Raúl Grijalva.

Adelita Grijalva is supported by the America’s Credit Unions PAC, the GoWest Credit Union Association, and Arizona credit unions in the race for this Congressional seat, America’s Credit Unions said.

‘Credit Union Supporter’

“She is a credit union member who supports the industry’s work in underserved communities,” the association added.

She served on the Pima County board from 2021 until resigning this year to run for Congress.
