CU Chartered to Serve Minneapolis’ Black Community Sets Opening Date

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.–The nascent Arise Community Credit Union said it will officially open on June 19th (Juneteenth), a little over a year after it was granted its charter.

The Association of Black Economic Power, which is behind the charter, said the occasion will be commemorated at a state capitol Juneteenth event. The organization is inviting community members to “unite in celebrating this significant day of freedom and economic empowerment.”

Arise Community CU was granted its charter in March of 2024. Its 5300 shows it has just over $1 million in assets and five members.

“Arise Community Credit Union, Minnesota’s first Black-led community credit union, stands as a testament to our dedication to advancing economic equity,” ABEP Board Chair Dr. Juneau Robbins said in a statement. “As the driving force behind Arise, ABEP has championed this initiative to fruition.”
Open to all, Arise Community Credit Union said it is dedicated to providing accessible banking services, equipping residents with the tools and resources essential for securing a stable financial future

‘Principles of Freedom’
“We eagerly anticipate the launch of Arise Community Credit Union on this meaningful occasion,” Arise Community CU CEO Francis Odhiambo said in a statement. “Juneteenth embodies principles of freedom and opportunity, and we take pride in offering a financial institution that empowers our community members to achieve their aspirations.”
