CUs Plan to Monitor Senate Hearing Today on AI

WASHINGTON–Much of the federal government may be shut down, but the Senate remains in session this week and will hold a hearing on artificial intelligence today that credit unions will be monitoring.
At 10 a.m., the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee will hold a hearing titled “AI’s Potential to Support Patients, Workers, Children, and Families.”

“We’ll obviously want to pay attention to that and make sure all the work that credit unions are doing now to incorporate AI or use AI to help service members is recognized and talked about, but also that guidelines are needed in using this product,” said Jason Stverak, chief advocacy officer with the Defense Credit Union Council.

Stverak said AI is an issue DCUC has been monitoring with plans to “dig into” it further in the future.

Seat at the Table
“It’s going to become a larger part of American society, whether it’s the economy or daily life, so we just want to make sure that when these discussions are taking place there are guardrails that protect privacy and data—and that credit unions are at the table and participating,” Stverak said.

The hearing can be viewed here today.
