Founders FCU Names New President

LANCASTER, S.C.— Founders Federal Credit Union has named a new president two months after parting ways with its previously announced incoming president

The $5-billion credit union said that Evan Mathis has been appointed president, effective immediately. Bruce Brumfield, whose retirement plans were announced last year, will remain with the organization as chief executive officer.

Founders had earlier named Keith Wilson, a 25-year veteran of the credit union, as its incoming president following Brumfield’s announcement of a pending retirement. In November, however, the board reversed course and ended Wilson’s employment.

“After careful consideration and discussion with our board, we know Evan is the right person to assume this role and maintain the momentum of the steady growth and strategic goals we have worked hard to achieve,” Brumfield said in a statement.

Mathis joined Founders in 2019 and most recently served as the credit union’s chief financial officer. Founders operates about 50 locations across North and South Carolina.

The credit union reported $4.7 billion in assets in 2024 and employs about 860 people serving nearly 274,000 members in the Carolinas, according to its most recent annual report.

Brumfield has led Founders for more than two decades and has worked at the credit union for nearly 40 years. He became CEO in 2002, succeeding Laura Fleming, who had led the organization for more than four decades.
