Frankenmuth CU Marks ICU Week With Numerous Events, Give-Backs

FRANKENMUTH, Mich.–During International Credit Union Week and in conjunction with CU Kind Day, Frankenmuth Credit Union (FCU) said it took the celebration to new heights this year.

FCU began the festivities with its annual Columbus Day gathering. The entire staff met at the Uptown North Main banquet facility, where they made over 100 fleece tie blankets for Sleep in Heavenly Peace – Saginaw. The morning service project was followed by a presentation from Folds of Honor CEO and founder, Lt. Colonel Dan Rooney.

The final event of the day was the Hope Tree Auction. This employee-funded event features games, live and silent auctions, and provides financial support for worthy causes in the communities FCU serves.

This year, Frankenmuth Credit Union staff supported six impactful organizations – the CAN Council (Child Abuse and Neglect), the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night, Love for A Child, the Saginaw Food Club, Underground Railroad, and Wellspring Bethesda.

The 2025 Hope Tree event raised a total of $29,902 which will be distributed among the six recipients.

As the week continued, FCU participated in CU Lunch Local – a day when credit unions order lunch from local restaurants to support community businesses. FCU staff placed orders at 37 restaurants with a combined impact of $3,125.

FCU also treated members to popcorn in the lobby all week long, while participating in fun dress-up days, including Favorite Character Day, Outdoor Activity Day, and Team Spirit Day.

“National Credit Union Week continues to be one of our favorite weeks of the year. It is a fun time for members and staff as we engage in some unique activities, but more importantly, meaningful contributions are made to our communities. Between our Hope Tree Auction and CU Lunch Local, our staff contributed over $33,000 to business and nonprofit organizations serving our region. At FCU we truly believe that we are all better when we work together,” CEO Vickie Schmitzer said in a statement.
