TRI-CITIES, Wash.–Gesa Credit Union is offering a total of $500,000 in grants to “local heroes” from the funding provided by its affinity debit card transactions.

In order to qualify for this program, a individual has to prove they work from an organization that include law enforcement, fire departments, teachers, veterans, and healthcare workers, GESA said.
Grants can range from a few hundred dollars to $50,000.
“We get to take what members are already doing in the community , just using their debit card around town with no impact to them, no change to their life, and we get to take just a couple of centers from every single one of those transactions and give it back to the community in ways that impact dramatically the world around us,” James Rothwell, VP-strategic initiatives administration, said in a statement. “There’s been stories already about how our funds have been used to save lives in the pacific northwest and it’s an incredible experience.”
