TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-Guy Hood, the long-time credit union association leader who spent the last 20 years of his career as CEO of the Florida Credit Union League, has died.

Hood began his career in CUs in 1970—on April Fool’s Day, he liked to point out—as a field rep with the Alabama Credit Union League. He would spend 18 years with the ACUL working his way up to lead its advocacy operation. He worked under another long-time CU leader at the Alabama league, Gary Wolter.
In 1988 he was named president of the Florida league, where he would remain for the next 20 years before retiring in January of 2009.
Oversaw League Merger
One of his last acts at the Florida league was to oversee a merger with his previous employer, the Alabama league, which would combine to create the League of Southeastern Credit Unions. Wolter also retired with the combination of the state associations.
The Georgia league would also join the League of Southeastern CUs, which also recently brought under its umbrella the Virginia CU League, leading to a name change to the League of Credit Unions.
