HAMLET, N.C.–A vibrant new mural now adorns the heart of historic downtown Hamlet and honors the town’s deep railroad roots while celebrating community and creativity, thanks to REV FCU.
Titled “The Orange Blossom Special,” the mural “captures the energy and spirit of Hamlet’s past — depicting the illuminated historic depot, conductors at work, and a sense of motion that feels both nostalgic and full of life,” according to Summerville, S.C.-based REV FCU.
The piece is part of a statewide initiative led by muralist Max Dowdle, who is painting 100 murals across North Carolina’s 100 counties to highlight the state’s diverse stories and landscapes.
“REV was proud to help make this project possible through a donation, supporting the arts while investing in the preservation of North Carolina’s rich history,” the $1.1-billion credit union said in a statement.
‘Beautiful Reminder’
“REV is honored to help bring this mural to life — it’s a beautiful reminder of how art can keep history alive in a way that feels fresh, exciting, and relevant for future generations,” Community Engagement Coordinator Dori Bishara said in a statement.
The Orange Blossom Special mural will be formally celebrated at a Centennial Celebration on Nov. 21, which marks the inaugural run of the Orange Blossom Special 100 years ago.
