Kauai Residents Can Now Make Property Tax Payments Through Island’s Credit Unions

LIHUE, Kauai–The Kaua‘i County Finance Department said it has entered into a new partnership with five credit unions on the island to make paying real property taxes easier and more convenient for residents.

Property owners will be able to set up automatic real property tax payments directly through their participating credit union beginning Feb. 9.

“This partnership is about meeting residents where they are and making essential services easier to access,” Kaua‘i County Mayor Derek Kawakami said in a statement “By working with our local credit unions, we are offering a practical tool that supports financial stability and strengthens our community.”

No More Missed Deadlines

According to the county, using this new option reduces the risk of missed deadlines and will help ensure payments are on time.

“By using the credit unions’ trusted financial platforms, taxpayers will benefit from the following,” according to the county:

  • Automatic payment enrollment, allowing members to authorize recurring real property tax payments without manual processing.
  • Secure transactions processed through the established banking systems at each of the credit unions, providing data protection and peace of mind.
  • A local partnership rooted in the shared mission to support the Kaua‘i community through accessible, reliable and locally focused services.

‘Members Trust Us’

“Our members trust us to simplify their financial lives,” Gather Federal Credit Union CEO Tess Shimabukuro said in a statement. “By working with the county, Kauai’s credit unions are delivering a convenient option that aligns with our commitment to community-focused banking.”

The county said property owners should contact their local credit union for additional information about how to enroll in automatic property tax payments.
