FORT WORTH, Texas—A Texas man who shot an off-duty deputy inside a credit union will spend nearly a century behind bars.
Leland Williams was sentenced to 95 years in prison for the 2023 attack in which Deputy Brent Brown was seriously injured when he was shot twice by the suspect. He has since recovered and returned to active duty, according to KDFW.

A Tarrant County jury deliberated for eight hours before reaching its decision. Williams had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault against a peace officer, the report stated.
The shooting occurred in November 2023 at Fort Worth Community Credit Union on Brentwood Stair Road. Brown was working off-duty security when Williams opened fire.
According to the report, surveillance footage captured the entire incident. Williams appeared agitated, left the credit union briefly, then returned and shot Brown twice in the lobby.
Officer Returned Fire
Despite his injuries, Brown managed to return fire. Williams fled but was arrested after a brief standoff in a nearby neighborhood, KDFW reported.
Williams testified that he was under the influence of Xanax and alcohol during the shooting.
Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn called the sentence a “long-overdue measure of justice.” He praised Brown’s courage during the attack, KDFW reported.
