Mass. Golf Tourney Raises $100K for A Bed for Every Child

STERLING, Mass.–Massachusetts Credit Unions and their business partners gathered for the 8th Annual Stephen D. Jones Credit Union Charity Golf Tournament at Sterling National Country Club, and with a strong turnout of 100 golfers, the event raised an impressive $100,000 to benefit A Bed for Every Child, an initiative of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.

According to the Cooperative CU Association, golfers enjoyed a beautiful day on the hilly, tree-lined course, filled with signature tournament traditions and new highlights. 

Among the most memorable additions was the “Break the Glass” challenge on Hole 15, where each golfer had three chances to shatter a pane of glass. Brian McGuirk from Strategic Resource Management was the first to do so, and by the end of the day, 19 golfers succeeded. Those who broke the glass were entered into a raffle, with Chris Gortzig of Metro Credit Union and Jack McCabe of St. Mary’s Credit Union winning prizes, including Oakley sunglasses and a speaker.

The day concluded with an awards reception emceed by Charlene Bauer, Social Responsibility Committee Chair from Metro Credit Union. Alison Hughes of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union shared heartfelt remarks about Steve Jones and his enduring commitment to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. CCUA President/CEO Ronald McLean expressed deep appreciation to all participating credit unions and supporters for helping provide comfort and stability to children in need, the association said.
