Mastercard Launches Agent Suite to Help Integrate Agents AI into Business Operations

NEW YORK — Mastercard has launched of Mastercard Agent Suite, a platform it said is designed to help enterprises integrate so-called agentic artificial intelligence into business operations and customer interactions.

The payments company said the platform reflects a broader effort to position Mastercard at the center of what it described as the emerging “agentic era” of commerce, in which AI agents are able to act autonomously on behalf of consumers and businesses.

According to Mastercard, Agent Suite combines customizable AI agents with technical support and advisory services from the company’s global teams. The platform is built on Mastercard’s payments infrastructure, data insights and existing artificial intelligence capabilities, and is intended to help companies develop, test and deploy AI agents tailored to their needs. Mastercard said the suite is expected to be available in the second quarter.

‘New Competitive Advantage’

“Readiness is the new competitive advantage,” Kaushik Gopal, Mastercard’s head of insights and intelligence, said in a statement.

The company cited eMarketer data estimating that nearly one-third of enterprise software applications will incorporate agentic AI by 2028, underscoring what Mastercard said is the need for businesses to prepare for the technology now.

Initial use cases for Agent Suite will focus on intelligent product discovery and conversational shopping experiences, the company said. For financial institutions, that could include AI agents recommending tailored banking products, such as travel cards or accounts designed to reduce fees, and explaining the reasoning behind those recommendations. For merchants, the platform could support personalized shopping assistants that account for inventory rules, pricing, brand voice and customer preferences.

Designed to Improve Conversion

Mastercard said the AI-driven experiences are designed to improve conversion and engagement while making commerce more seamless.

Agent Suite is part of a broader set of AI-enabled commerce tools from Mastercard, which also includes Mastercard Agent Pay, a capability that supports secure payments initiated by AI agents, and the Mastercard Developers Agent Toolkit for software developers. The company said its Start Path startup engagement program will also expand its focus on agentic commerce by giving early-stage companies access to Mastercard’s ecosystem.

Investing in Infrastructure

The announcement comes as payments networks and technology companies invest in defining infrastructure and standards for AI-driven commerce and payments. Mastercard said it is working with protocol initiatives and open standards, including the Universal Commerce Protocol, to promote interoperability between AI agents and digital platforms.

Mastercard has also emphasized trust and safety as AI agents begin initiating transactions. In October, Mastercard and PayPal announced a partnership to pilot an Agent Pay Acceptance Framework aimed at ensuring AI-initiated payments meet security and verification standards.

During earnings call in October, Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach said the company sees significant long-term potential in agentic commerce and is collaborating with companies including OpenAI, Google and Cloudflare to help establish technical and safety standards as AI agents transact over the Mastercard network.
