MSA Underground Coverage: CEO Urges CUs to Maintain Commitment to Ukraine

WASHINGTON–The Trump administration may be openly questioning the U.S. commitment to Ukraine as it fights back against the Russian invasion, but one credit union CEO says credit unions should absolutely maintain their commitment to the country.

Speaking to Mitchell Stankovic’s Underground meeting, Steve Stapp, CEO of Unitus Community CU in Washington, said, “Four-thousand, nine-hundred, seventy-two miles from this point a war is going on in Ukraine. It may not necessarily feel like they are our neighbors, but they are,” said Stapp. “All politics aside, we saw in the last few days what happened (across the street from the Underground meeting at the White House with the argument between President Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy). But we have a duty and we have an obligation. Women and children are suffering through this war. In the time that I just gave this introduction, that’s the amount of time that most communities in Ukraine have to be warned that either a drone or incoming artillery is going to hit their community.”

‘They Need Your Help’

Stepp extolled the work being done in Ukraine by the Via Stella Foundation and the Worldwide Foundation, as well as credit unions around the world that have made contributions, and he urged everyone to make a contribution if they can.

“They need your help and support,” Stapp said.
