No Cash, No Counting: The Latest Tradition to Become an App is Monopoly

PAWTUCKET, R.I.–It’s not known how many kids might sit down this Memorial Day weekend to play a game of Monopoly, but they will soon be doing so—of course—with the new “Monopoly App Banking” board game, a kids version of the game with no cash and no counting.

The game will also feature kid-focused properties including Rocket Launch Pad and Alien Skatepark, and an app for Banker and Bank, according to Hasbro.

Alas, it appears they may never know what mini-currency looks like in a half-dozen different colors.

The app runs on mobile devices, and takes care of buying, auctioning, and collecting rent on properties, which are scanned and connected to a token and matching bank card, Hasbro said.

Faster Play

It added the Monopoly App Banking board game play is faster than classic Monopoly and fits the age range between Monopoly Jr. and the classic game.

The game is for two to six players, ages eight and up, and retails at $24.99.
The staged release has the game available on Amazon on June 1, at “major retailers” on July 15, and in hobby game stores in August, Hasbro reported.
