People Crashing Into People: The Latest CUs Hit by Cars Include…

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio —Credit union buildings remain prime targets for Americas drivers.

As part of the CU Daily’s ongoing series offering updates on all of the cars crashing into branches, here are some of the latest incidents in recent months.

Wrong Turn at Wright Patt

A 74-year-old driver crashed into a branch of Wright Patt Credit Union on Bechtle Avenue here.

According to police, a preliminary investigation found that a Springfield woman was driving a Subaru through the credit union’s parking lot when she turned right into a parking spot.

The crash report indicates that it appears the driver hit the accelerator instead of the brakes, causing the car to go over the curb and into the building, police said.

Medics checked out the driver on scene, but she wasn’t transported to the hospital.

Not in Park

In Newburgh, N.Y., police say an 82-year-old woman was attempting to park when she struck a facility of Hudson Valley Credit Union. The driver suffered a minor cut to her chin, according to police. No one was injured at the credit union.

A Two for One

In Northern Virginia, an SUV crashed into a commercial building, damaging a real estate office that shares a wall with a branch of Northwest FCU, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) said units responded just before 9 p.m. to the 20000 block of Exchange Street in Ashburn for reports of a vehicle that had struck a building.

Deputies and emergency crews arrived to find a vehicle lodged inside a real estate office connected to the Northwest FCU branch.

Authorities said that the SUV did not enter the CU, though the shared wall between the two businesses was damaged.

Video from the scene shows the car partially inside what appears to be the office’s rear. LCFR officials said one person was evaluated at the scene, and no injuries were reported.

No Resting on this Patio

A truck crashed through the front patio of a San Luis Obispo credit union. According to a Facebook post from the San Luis Obispo County Police Department, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 3800 block of Broad Street late at night. Arriving at the scene of the crash, officers found a pickup truck that had traveled off the road and crashed through a fence before coming to a stop in the outdoor patio area of SESLOC Credit Union.

The driver, the vehicle’s sole occupant, was transported to a local hospital for evaluation before being booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence. “We are grateful this incident occurred after business hours when the patio was empty,” the post read. “This serves as a stark reminder of how quickly an impaired driver can lose control.”
