FREMONT, Ohio–Police were called here after three executives with Fremont FCU who were having some fun creating a video that satirized a famous scene from the 1999 film Office Space were spotted smashing an ATM with baseball bats.
The trio had been swinging plastic baseball bats at an older ATM in the drive-through at the credit union’s headquarters, attempting to re-create of the famous printer destruction scene from the movie, the Toledo Blade reported. (The cult favorite movie includes a plot line that involves robbing the company credit union.)
We had a lot of fun filming it,” Joe Tutak, vice president of marketing at FFCU, who was one of the three people in the video, told the Blade. “It was definitely a lot more interesting once the police showed up.”

‘Three Men in Dress Shirts With Bats’
The Blade cited a report from Fremont police officer Jordan Smith that stated, “an unknown complaint reported three men in dress shirts and ties with bats hitting the ATM machine. Upon arrival, I spoke with one of the males in the group, [CFO] Jack Milkie. Jack advised they work for the bank and were destroying an unused ATM machine.”
“I kind of knew why the police was there — three grown men taking baseball bats to machinery,” Milkie told the Blade. “That might cause alarm for some people driving by. I got ready to answer his questions and put his mind at ease.”
Once the police were reassured there was nothing nefarious going on, filming resumed.
According to the Toledo Blade, Tutak came up with the idea to do the clip and show the same frustrations people were having with the old ATM machines as the employees had with the office printer in Office Space.
Changing Vendors
“We had been experiencing difficulties and performance issues with the ATMs for the past year. The previous vendor was extremely lacking. There were many issues. Subsequently, in April, they went out of business. We were already in the process of replacing the vendor,” he told the Blade.
