BELL, Calif.–Police here are warning people about an additional twist to so-called “bank jugging” crimes, in which criminals watch customers at banks, credit unions and ATMs, identifying those withdrawing large cash amounts, and follow them to steal the money.

The Bell Police Department issued a social media statement police cautioned, “In recently reported incidents, suspects have been working in groups, deflating victims’ tires so they are forced to pull over. Once the victim stops, the suspects take money left inside the vehicle.
“Authorities remind everyone to watch their surroundings after visiting an ATM and to not leave valuables in a car,” police added. “Should a car get a flat tire, pull over and deal with the situation in a well-lit location.”
