BALTIMORE–In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Securityplus Federal Credit Union said it partnered with TALMAR (Therapeutic Alternatives of Maryland) for a day of hands-on service, reinforcing its commitment to wellness, inclusion, and community impact.
A team of Securityplus employees spent four hours volunteering at TALMAR Farm, located in Cromwell Valley Park. The team supported a variety of activities including planting, weeding, and preparing garden beds—efforts that contribute directly to TALMAR’s therapeutic and vocational programming for individuals of all abilities.
TALMAR’s mission focuses on improving mental and physical well-being through therapeutic horticulture, with special outreach to veterans, individuals managing mental health challenges, and those in need of inclusive vocational training, the credit union said.

The organization’s programs include horticulture therapy, art-based social connection groups, and the VA FARMS program, which benefits veterans receiving care through the VA Maryland Health Care System.
“Volunteering at TALMAR was our way of shining a light on the connection between mental wellness and community engagement,” Obi Ndukwe, Chief People and Impact Officer at Securityplus, said in a statement.
“We’re proud to support an organization that transforms lives through the healing power of horticulture,” Jack Schiefer, Vice President of Facilities and Chair of the Securityplus Sustainability Team, added in a statement.
This initiative is part of Securityplus’ broader sustainability and community wellness strategy, which promotes employee volunteerism, mental health advocacy, and social responsibility throughout the year, the CU said.
