Senate to Host 2 Hearings of Interest to CUs This Week; NCUA Chair to Testify

WASHINGTON—The federal government may remain shut down, but the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs will be holding two hearings of interest to credit unions this week, one of which will include an appearance by NCUA’s chairman.


Today, a subcommittee will hold a hearing titled, “Innovation in U.S. Housing: Solutions and Polices for America’s Future.”
The witnesses will be Dr. Lawrence “Lars” Powell, executive director, Center for Insurance and Research, Culverhouse College of Business, University of Alabama; Mary Tingerthal, founder, Construction Revolution; and Dennis Shea, EVP and chair, Bipartisan Policy Center, J. Ronald Terwilliger Center for Housing Policy.

NCUA Chair to Appear
On Thursday, the committee will hold its regular hearing, “Update from the Prudential Regulators: Rightsizing Regulation to Promote American Opportunity.”
Appearing as witnesses will be Michelle Bowman, vice chair for supervision, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System; Travis Hill, acting chairman, FDIC; Jonathan Gould, comptroller, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency; and Kyle Hauptman, NCUA chairman.
Both hearings begin at 10 a.m. ET.
