Southern Energy CU Formally Names Andy Rush as President and CEO

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– Southern Energy Credit Union reported that Andy Rush has officially assumed the role of president and CEO as of Oct. 1, following his appointment earlier this year.
The $3.57-billion credit union said the planned transition marks a new chapter in its leadership, as Rush succeeds Derrick Ragland, who led SECU “with distinction” from 2016 through September 2025.

Rush brings 23 years of experience within Southern Energy Credit Union, serving in key roles across operations, accounting and strategic planning. As VP/COO since 2016, SECU said he played a pivotal role in guiding the credit union through successful mergers, expanding member services and strengthening operational efficiency.

‘Privilege to Serve’
“It’s a privilege to serve our members in this new capacity,” Rush said in a statement. “As we enter this next chapter together, my promise is simple: to uphold the values of trust, service and connection that have defined our legacy, while exploring new ways to grow, enhance our members’ experience and support their financial journey.”

Added Board Chair Greg Shipp, “Andy’s deep institutional knowledge and unwavering dedication make him the ideal leader for this next chapter. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Derrick Ragland for his years of visionary leadership and service to our members.”

‘Steadfast in Mission’
Southern Energy said that under Rush’s leadership it “remains steadfast in its mission to power members’ financial success with personalized service, trusted solutions and a commitment to their long-term growth.”
Southern Energy CU, founded in 1953, serves Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi, and has more than 90,000 members.
