State Department FCU Celebrating 90th Anniversary

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — State Department Federal Credit Union (SDFCU) celebrated its 90th anniversary of empowering its members through trusted, personalized financial service. The event brought together members, community leaders, and SDFCU employees to reflect on the Credit Union’s enduring mission and to celebrate the unveiling of the newly renovated Alexandria branch: a symbol of its continued investment in those it serves.

Since its founding in 1935, SDFCU has grown into a global financial partner with nearly 90,000 members around the world. Throughout its history, SDFCU has remained focused on delivering value through competitive financial products, financial wellness resources, and digital solutions that meet the unique needs of a globally mobile membership.

The event featured remarks from board of directors Chair Marlene Schwartz and President & CEO Jim Hayes, both of whom reflected on the credit union’s continued purpose and future vision.

“This is more than a celebration of our past; it’s a renewed commitment to the future,” said Schwartz in a statement. “For 90 years, SDFCU has stood as a pillar of trust and service. Today’s re-opening of our Alexandria branch symbolizes our continued investment in our members and our community.”

Our members make a difference in the world every day. We take pride in making a difference for them. As we look ahead, we’re focused on continued innovation, stronger financial tools, and even more ways to help our members thrive — wherever life takes them,” added Hayes.

The credit union said that while the celebration included the grand reopening of the updated Alexandria branch, the heart of the event was a reaffirmation of SDFCU’s ongoing commitment: to serve with integrity, empower with education, and grow alongside its members. The renovated branch features enhanced technology and a modern design to support more seamless, personalized service, it added..
