TEMPLE, Texas–Texell Credit Union has launched the “Worth a Listen” podcast, which it describes as a financial podcast for everyday life. Host Chris Haynie interviews guests about financial topics and delves deeper into questions that affect everyone, according to the credit union.
The first episode features guest Amber Speer on Demystifying Home Buying, where she and Haynie explore the process of shopping for a home, preapprovals and mortgage applications, and expenses of becoming a homeowner.

Other topics covered in the earliest episodes include employee health benefits, investment plans and options, and career development after graduation, according to Texell CU.
“We hope that listeners learn something new and unexpected with each guest,” said Haynie in a statement “Although we start each episode with broader questions, I like to dig in and discover tips and takeaways that listeners will find valuable.”
The Inspiration
According to Texell CU, the inspiration for the podcast comes from Alex Ortiz, who created his own podcast during high school and worked on a podcast as a college student at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
“I wanted to help other Gen Zs, like me, with the financial questions that we’re expected to have already answered,” said Alex Ortiz, Director/Producer of the Worth a Listen podcast. “Additionally, my desire is that wherever a listener is on their financial journey, they can learn something new or we can help them look at something from a different perspective. A lot of time has gone into creating something that will educate listeners for years to come, and I can’t wait to see where this goes.”
