The Art of Fraud: Here’s How Three Members Would Stop the Threats

SODUS, N.Y.–Credit unions have published no end of warnings and education around the threat of fraud, but how would everyday members convey those same threats if given the chance. One CU here has some answers.

Reliant Credit Union has selected three winners in its Fraud Fighters Art & Meme Contest,  a unique initiative that sought to use artwork and memes created by members as a way to spread fraud awareness.

The contest, Reliant said, was “designed to inspire creative ways to think before sharing personal information and raise awareness about the dangers of scams.”

The contest, which the CU Daily first reported on here, invited participants of all ages to submit original artwork—whether hand-drawn posters, digital illustrations, or memes—showcasing how to raise awareness and protect our members from fraud.

The Winners

The winners are:

  • Youth Category (Under 13): Chloe P.
  • Teen Category (13–17): Johannes O.
  • Adult Category (18+): Mckayla S.

Each winner will receive exclusive Reliant swag and have their artwork showcased across multiple platforms, including Reliant’s monthly newsletter, social media channels, and in a virtual gallery on the Reliant website, the credit union said.

‘Powerful Tool’

“As scammers continue to advance, we believe creative expression is a powerful tool to educate and engage our community,” President and CEO Pamela Heald said in a statement. “Congratulations to our talented winners—Chloe, Johannes, and Mckayla—for using their art to help our members think more critically about what they’re sharing and whom they trust.”
