WASHINGTON/SACRAMENTO–Credit unions will be sponsoring two high-profile road races this weekend on opposite coasts of the country.

What has been called an annual “Runner’s Rite of Spring” is expected to have than 17,000 participants in the 10 Mile course that winds past the world famous Japanese cherry trees in the nation’s capital on a flat, fast course that passes by all the major D.C. monuments.

Two Days of Events

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run will take place on Sunday morning with a top international field, including defending men’s champion Wesley Kiptoo, defending U.S. champion Hillary Bor and 2024 Olympian Fiona O’Keeffe.

The race includes significant prize money for the professionals.

For the third consecutive year, the race also hosts the USATF 10 Mile Championships.

SacTown Run in California

In addition, in Sacramento, Calif. on Oct. 6 the Credit Union SacTown Run is set to again take place, with support from more than 60 California and Nevada credit unions and the California and Nevada leagues.

The event benefits Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN), with a goal this year of raising $200,000. Hosted by the Sacramento Running Association (SRA), it has raised $3 million for local CMN Hospitals over the past several years.

The California State Capitol is the starting and finishing line for the  10-mile race, a 5K run/walk, and the Miracle Mile.

“Beyond the race, the Credit Union SACTOWN Run is a celebration of community, fostering connections and strengthening bonds within the Sacramento area,” organizers said.

The annual run also serves as the USA Track and Field’s Pacific Association 10-Mile Championship, drawing competitive athletes while maintaining its welcoming atmosphere for participants of all abilities, organizers added.
