TwinStar CU Names David Tuyo to Succeed Long-Time CEO Jeff Kennedy

LACEY, Wash. – TwinStar Credit Union has named David Tuyo as its new CEO. Tuyo will succeed the credit union’s long-term CEO, Jeff Kennedy, who is retiring after nearly 40 years of service. 

Tuyo has more than 25 years of financial services experience to his new position, serving most recently as president & CEO of University Credit Union in Los Angeles since 2017.

“Under his leadership, the credit union more than doubled its assets and members while significantly expanding its geographic footprint,” the $4.2-billion TwinStar said in a statement.

Tuyo has also held senior level positions at various financial institutions, including Power Financial Credit Union, USAlliance Federal Credit Union, and PenAir FCU.

“I can’t wait to join the dedicated team at TwinStar and continue building on Jeff’s impressive legacy of service,” said Tuyo in a statement. “As CEO, I’m committed to providing innovative products and services to help our members and communities feel financially secure and empowered to reach their dreams.”

Educational Background

Tuyo earned his Doctor of Business Administration in Leadership & Organizational Behavior from California Southern University; a Master of Business Administration in Economics from Mississippi State University; and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from University of Mobile.

In his free time, Tuyo enjoys traveling with his spouse of 23 years and their two college-age children, along with golfing, camping, and volunteering in the community with his local church, the credit union said.

Tuyo will officially begin his new position on May 1, 2025, but the 261,393-member TwinStar said he and retiring CEO, Jeff Kennedy, are already working together to “ensure a smooth transition for the cooperative.”
