First Central CU Breaks Ground on New HQ

WACO, Texas–First Central Credit Union has broken ground on a new corporate headquarters. The credit union said the facility will serve as both a headquarters for administrative operations and a branch location — its fourth location in the greater Waco area, according to KWTX.

“We have worked so long and so hard to get ourselves in the place to be able to build this building,” President and CEO JoBetsy Tyler told the news outlet. “For us — for the credit union, for our members, for our staff — it’s a launching point for our future growth.”

First Central said the new corporate office is being funded entirely through the credit union’s own reserves as it nears $200 million in assets ($181.1 million in assets). It has more than 20,000 members.

First Central told KWTX that the new building is intended to address operational needs, as the credit union has outgrown in its current space, including additional room for collaboration and capacity for future expansion. First Central said the facility will also include community-facing meeting space and programming for local organizations and events.

‘More Than a New Building’

“This groundbreaking represents more than a new building — it reflects our confidence in the future of First Central and our commitment to the communities we serve,” Tyler stated.

Tyler told KTTX the credit union purchased the land in 2018, but plans evolved — particularly following changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Think about 2020 with COVID, and we’ve changed some things about our operations since then,” Tyler told the news outlet. “If we’d built that original plan, it wouldn’t have been right…“We feel like the time is right, the design is right, and we’re ready to move forward.”
