BRATTLEBORO, Vt.—802 Credit Union marked Vermont’s annual “802 Day” by donating a total of $10,426 to 13 nonprofit organizations and community groups across the state, according to the credit union.
The credit union said each of its Vermont locations selected a local organization to receive an $802 donation as part of the Aug. 2 celebration. Vermont’s statewide telephone area code is 802, and the annual observance highlights the state’s identity and community pride.
According to 802 Credit Union, employees at each branch were invited to choose a nonprofit or cause that is important to their local community.
‘More Than Our Name’
“802 is more than our name. It represents where we live, where we work, and the communities we are proud to serve,” Stacey Benoit, chief operating officer of 802 Credit Union, said in a statement. “802 Day gives us another opportunity to celebrate that connection by putting support directly into the hands of organizations doing meaningful work in our communities.”
The organizations receiving donations include:
- Amy’s Armoire in Barre, which supports foster, adoptive and kinship families.
- Our Place Community Food Center in Bellows Falls.
- Village for Paws in Bethel, a dog rescue organization.
- Women’s Freedom Center in Brattleboro, which provides services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
- Windham County Safe Place in Brattleboro, a child advocacy center serving abuse survivors.
- Putney Community Supper.
- Randolph Fish & Game Club.
- Park House in Rochester, an assisted living community for older adults.
- Step Out VT in South Burlington, which assists women facing barriers to employment.
- Springfield Town Library.
- Rescue Inc. in Townshend, an emergency medical services provider.
- High Horses Therapeutic Riding Program in Sharon, selected by the White River Junction branch.
- Windsor Food Shelf.
‘At the Heart of What We Do’
The credit union said the donations support organizations focused on food security, emergency medical services, education, affordable housing and assisted living, animal welfare, youth and family services, and programs serving vulnerable populations.
“Community is at the heart of who we are as a credit union,” Benoit said in a statement. “These organizations show up for our neighbors every day. We are proud to recognize their work, support their missions and celebrate 802 Day alongside the communities we call home.”
According to 802 Credit Union, 802 Day is an annual celebration of the institution’s Vermont roots and its ongoing support for local nonprofits, community organizations and events throughout the state.
