Associate Board Member Program Launched by Greylock FCU. Here’s Why

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Greylock Federal Credit Union has launched a program designed to recruit and prepare future members of its board of directors.

The Associate Board Member Program will give participants experience in board governance, strategic leadership and community engagement, the $1.78-billio Greylock FCU said.

The member-owned financial cooperative said the program is intended to develop leaders who understand the needs of the communities Greylock serves. Applicants should be interested in Greylock’s mission and learning more about board service, the credit union said.

“This program is where tomorrow’s credit union leaders are shaped today,” Chairperson Peter Lopez said in a statement. “It empowers emerging voices to learn governance, inspire strategy, lead with purpose, and strengthen the credit union difference.”

Up to 3 Members to be Selected

Up to three associate board members will participate in the program, subject to established term limits, Greylock said. Participants will observe board meetings and receive mentorship and educational opportunities. Previous board experience is not required.

The program is also intended to provide participants with training in governance, financial oversight and strategic decision-making, according to John Bissell, Greylock’s president and CEO.

‘Strong Stewardship’ Cited

“As a member-owned financial cooperative, strong stewardship by our volunteer board is a powerful asset to Greylock,” Bissell said in a statement. “The Associate Director program enables proven community leaders to gain skills and training on governance, financial oversight and strategic decision-making.”

Bissell said the program is designed to prepare potential future directors and strengthen the credit union.
