Leagues Release Cybersecurity Awareness Toolkit

WASHINGTON — The American Association of Credit Union Leagues has released a cybersecurity awareness toolkit designed to help credit unions educate members about online scams, fraud and other digital threats as cybercrime losses continue to rise.

AACUL said the complimentary, customizable Cybersecurity Awareness Toolkit provides credit unions with ready-to-use materials for member communications, employee education, community outreach and fraud response efforts.

The association cited federal data showing Americans filed more than 850,000 internet crime complaints in 2024, with reported losses exceeding $16 billion. Adults 60 and older reported nearly $5 billion in losses, more than any other age group.

“The league system is committed to providing practical resources that help credit unions address the issues that matter most to their members,” AACUL President Brad Miller said in a statement. “As cybercriminals continue to evolve their tactics, education remains one of the most effective tools we have.”

The cybersecurity package is the latest in AACUL’s 2026 toolkit series, which provides materials that credit unions can customize with their own branding and adapt to their communities and members.

What’s Included

The toolkit includes newsletter, blog, website and email content; social media graphics and captions; branch and lobby posters; scam and fraud reference sheets; a customizable press release; and materials for Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October.

AACUL also included what it calls a “Fraud Alert in a Box,” which provides alert notices, graphics, employee talking points and member handouts that credit unions can deploy when responding to emerging fraud threats.

A four-week campaign calendar provides themed content covering scam identification, account protection, identity theft prevention and safe online shopping during the holiday season.

Envisant Provides Support

AACUL said the materials are available at no cost to credit unions through their respective state leagues and AACUL. The toolkit was supported by Envisant, the credit union service organization of the Illinois Credit Union League.

“By working together to underwrite and develop these resources, Leagues are able to provide customizable, no-cost materials that help credit unions strengthen member awareness and promote safer digital behaviors,” Miller said.

AACUL said credit unions can use the materials during Cybersecurity Awareness Month and throughout the year as part of ongoing fraud prevention and member education efforts.
